Justin Anthony Clark was arrested on a warrant that was not his. Deputies failed to verify his Social Security number, date of birth, or middle name against the warrant. He was held for three days, denied kidney medication, and lost his job before the error was discovered. He is suing Knox County and the Sheriff's Office.

Wrongful Death — SWAT Raid

The parents of Daevon Saint-Germain, an 18-year-old high school senior, filed a federal lawsuit after KCSO SWAT members shot and killed him during an early morning raid at his family's home on January 3, 2025. Deputies were not wearing body cameras. The lawsuit alleges excessive force and lack of probable cause. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing the family.

Death in Custody — David Batts

Filed 2025

David Batts, 46, died on January 8, 2025 — five days after Saint-Germain — following a violent encounter at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. Officers pepper-sprayed him, used a Taser on him four times, and struck him repeatedly. Attorney Ben Crump filed notice of legal action against the county and UT Medical Center.

Concealed Evidence — Teen Death Investigation

The family of Conor Dolin, a 15-year-old killed in a 2022 crash in South Knox County, sued the Knox County Sheriff's Office in February 2026. Knox News investigative reporting revealed a mistake-filled initial investigation and a second investigation by the sheriff's office. The family alleges evidence was concealed and withheld for years.
